Here’s the latest from Lions of Liberty!

In today’s episode, host Marc Clair welcomes in economist and author Steve Horwitz on his recent article entitled “Don’t Smash the State.” But first Steve reveals how he first became introduced to the ideas of liberty, Steve and Marc discuss how works of fiction can often be the impetus towards a further philosophical pursuit. Steve explains why he embraced the idea of “pushing the button” to “end the State” overnight when he was a young libertarian, and just what insights made him start to believe this idea might have flaws.

Steve describes his preferred analogy for the state as a “bomb”, whose wires must be pulled in the correct order, lest the bomb go off. He explains the reason why he advocates for a measured rollback of coercive legislation, both strategically and morally. Steve and Marc examine some of the first “wires” that could be pulled, and the possible ramifications of pulling the wrong one too early.

In the Last Roar (32:00), Marc explains why it’s important for those who advocate for individual liberty to have proper political priorities (sorry, I just can’t resist an alliteration opportunity).

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, host Marc Clair is joined by Alex Newman, co-author of “Crimes of the Educators: How Utopians Are Using Government Schools to Destroy America’s Children.” Alex explains how he first became interested in the subject of education, and answers the question, ‘Just what exactly are the “crimes” of the educators?’ Alex describes the “whole word” reading method, and how it has lead to an epidemic of illiteracy and dyslexia in American children. Marc and Alex discuss how the American public school system abuses children through learning processes which actively damage their brains, psychotropic drugs administered at an early age, and just how new regulations through Common Core are furthering this process.

If you have children or plan to have children, you cannot miss this shocking interview. As usual, Marc has his own thoughts in the Last Roar!

Here’s the latest from Marc Clair and Lions of Liberty!!!

In today’s show, host Marc Clair is joined by the one and only, Judd Weiss! Judd is known largely for his photography in the liberty movement, but in today’s show we meet the man behind the camera and delve into what makes Judd Weiss tick. Judd describes how his largely nihilistic attitude as a teenager was knocked for a loop with his introduction to Ayn Rand and her work “Anthem.” He then describes how he discovered the work of Nathaniel Branden, how it drastically altered his path in life, and how he eventually became close personal friends with Branden prior to his death in 2014. Marc and Judd discuss Judd’s interview with Jan Helfeld, and just why he was so unfazed by the questioning of the libertarian Socratic interviewer. They touch on the philosophical roots of a belief in individual liberty, and why a search for objective truth in the world is vital to the advancement of liberty. As always, stay tuned after the interview for Marc’s thoughts in the wrap-up rant!

Austin Petersen on LoL!!!

In today’s show, host Marc Clair welcomes in Austin Petersen to discuss why he enthusiastically touts a minarchist – i.e. “limited government” – philosophy. But first, Austin describes how he came to identify as a libertarian after being raised in a conservative household. Austin then details how he spearheaded the creation Judge Napolitano’s much-hailed “Freedom Watch” on Fox Business, and what he learned from the experience. Marc and Austin then discuss why Austin identifies himself as a minarchist. Austin explains why he rejects the concept of anarchism, and the key problems he sees with anarchist philosophy. Marc and Austin discuss concepts such as consent of the governed, negative vs. positive rights, how a ‘small government’ could be funded, and vigilante justice. After the interview, Marc lays out his positive vision of how individuals in a free society could handle issues of justice while respecting private property rights, and stresses the importance of a reasoned, philosophical approach to the ideas of liberty.

They then discuss John’s recent appearance on Michael Santos’ Earning Freedom podcast, and what people can learn from Michael Santos and the great work he is doing to help those facing the harsh realities of the U.S. criminal justice system. Finally, they wrap things up by looking at the looming deadline for Prop 47 petitions in California, and encourage those affected by it and their loved ones to act immediately to restore any rights lost to felony drug convictions.

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, I am joined by Dr. Mirand Sharma, an emergency room physician of over twenty years who asked to come on the show to offer a rebuttal to the recent interview with the “Science Babe”, Yvette Guinevere. First, Dr. Sharma describes how the events of 9/11/01 along with the presidential candidacy of Ron Paul helped lead him to hold libertarian ideals. Dr. Sharma then explains why he took issue with many of the statements of the Science Babe, including her stance on GMO’s and vaccines. Dr. Sharma and I discuss how crony arrangements between the FDA and CDC and companies such as Monsanto and Merck often lead to justifiable suspicion about their products, particularly when they are able to influence the regulation of their own products. Marc Clair interviews Rick Ross on cults!

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, I welcome in cult expert and deprogramming specialist, Rick Ross of the Cult Education Institute. Rick describes how he first became entrenched in the subject of cults when he realized his grandmother was being preyed upon by a cult at her nursing home. Since then, Ross has become one of the leading specialists on cults in the United States, and has worked to “deprogram” many who have fallen under the influence of destructive cults. Rick describes the defining characteristics of cults, and how they differ from mainstream religions. Rick and I discuss the types of people who are vulnerable to cults, how cult leaders exert such a strong influence over their followers, and just how those who have fallen into a cult can be deprogrammed. In the wrap-up rant, I have some thoughts of my own on how cult-like thinking has become pervasive in many aspects of our society. I then share a personal story about my own experience with a cult.

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, I am joined by WorldNetDaily.com‘s longest running paleolibertarian columnist, Ilana Mercer! Ilana describes how her political views first took shape, and how a conversation with Walter Block made her realize that she was a libertarian. Ilana and I then discuss Ms. Mercer’s recent article, “Libertarian Anarchism’s ‘Justice’ Problem”. Ilana explains the problem she has with many anarchists who denounce any involvement in government or politics, preferring to live in the “sin of abstraction.” Ilana and I explore the ideas surrounding what justice should be in a free society, the problem with competing theories of justice, and how “personalized justice” can actually result in injustice. As usual, I have some thoughts of my own in the wrap-up rant!

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, I welcome in Michael Minardi, a criminal defense attorney based out of Florida who specializes in defending clients against prosecution for using cannabis for medical purposes. Michael describes how he first began to see the hypocrisy in drug laws and their enforcement as a teenager, and how that led him to pursue a career in defending people against drug prosecutions. Michael and I discuss the case of Jesse Teplicki, who Michael successfully defended in court after he was arrested for growing marijuana at his home in order to aid him in dealing with his anorexia nervosa. Michael explains the federal government’s hypocrisy on medical cannabis, the hostility faced from judges and prosecutors for defending medical cannabis patients, and why he feels the jury’s decision to acquit Jesse Teplicki is not a case of jury nullification. As fans of the Lions of Liberty Podcast might expect, I have a rant of my own to close out the show.

Marc and Michael discuss some of the reasons the Lions of Liberty work daily to advance the ideas, and some of the common topics we discuss such as the FDA and the War on Drugs. Brandon and I discuss just how local police departments are able to spy on digital communications, why digital privacy is so important even for those who feel they have “nothing to hide”, and how knowledge of surveillance stifles political speech.
