In today’s episode, host Marc Clair is joined by the leader of the Libertarian Party of Canada, Tim Moen! Tim discusses how a re-examination of his religious beliefs and a literal fear of being sent to hell propelled him to seek truth in the world, which has led him to a belief in individual liberty. Tim discusses how he approaches talking to Canadians about liberty, and the sacrilege topic of whether or not Canadians should have universal health care. Marc and Tim discuss common misconceptions many people hold about libertarians, and give his thoughts on the new government under Justin Trudeau, Canada’s new “anti-terror” law, and makes his pitch for why Canadians who hold a belief in liberty should become involved with the Libertarian Party of Canada.

In today’s episode, Marc Clair welcomes in quite possibly one of the most interesting men on the planet – creator of McAfee Antivirus, “eccentric millionaire” and now Presidential candidate, John McAfee! In this compelling discussion, McAfee describes the largely unaddressed dangers posed to the American people, from seemingly harmless apps spying on our everyday lives to the greater cyber security threats posed by China and Russia. Marc probes John’s views on topics ranging from foreign policy to the FDA to the War on Drugs. McAfee lays out his case for why he is uniquely equipped to deal with the very real threats to our way of life and why he is confident he can and will become the President of the United States in 2016.

This may be the most fascinating interview in Lions of Liberty history – don’t miss a second of it!

In today’s episode, host Marc Clair welcomes in economist and author Steve Horwitz on his recent article entitled “Don’t Smash the State.” But first Steve reveals how he first became introduced to the ideas of liberty, Steve and Marc discuss how works of fiction can often be the impetus towards a further philosophical pursuit. Steve explains why he embraced the idea of “pushing the button” to “end the State” overnight when he was a young libertarian, and just what insights made him start to believe this idea might have flaws.

Steve describes his preferred analogy for the state as a “bomb”, whose wires must be pulled in the correct order, lest the bomb go off. He explains the reason why he advocates for a measured rollback of coercive legislation, both strategically and morally. Steve and Marc examine some of the first “wires” that could be pulled, and the possible ramifications of pulling the wrong one too early.

In the Last Roar (32:00), Marc explains why it’s important for those who advocate for individual liberty to have proper political priorities (sorry, I just can’t resist an alliteration opportunity).

Another great episode from our partners over at Lions of Liberty:

In today’s episode, host Marc Clair welcomes in liberty activist and fellow Los Angelean, Nick Hankoff! Nick details how the combined influence of George Carlin, Ayn Rand and Ron Paul set him down the path of liberty activism. Marc and Nick discuss the vibrant liberty scene in Los Angeles and make plans to meet up later that evening at a local liberty “Liberty on the Rocks” event (Editor’s Note: and we did!) Nick describes how he and his fellow “liberty kids” attained positions of power in the Los Angeles Republican Party, and emphasizes the importance of building a network to advance liberty. Marc then tosses Nick a curveball and asks him the “Tom Woods Stumper”, and they break down possible conflicts between “states rights” and “individual rights.” Marc and Nick ponder whether California will join Colorado, Washington and Oregon and put the final nails in the coffin in it’s war on marijuana and fully legalize in 2016. Nick then lays out his vision for the “Nick Hankoff Show.”

In the Last Roar (35:53), Marc rants about the value of connecting with – and even more importantly, creating – more like-minded people, and stresses the importance of constantly striving for a consistent set of principles.

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, host Marc Clair welcomes back the “Socratic Assassin” Jan Helfeld to take a look back at some of his past interviews with the current crop of 2016 Presidential candidates. We discuss his interview with Bernie Sanders and how Jan made Bernie “Feel the Bern” himself. Jan describes his interview with Ben Carson, and why he was ultimately impressed with Carson’s response on racism and affirmative action. We harken back to Jan’s interview with Joe Biden from “The Bottom Line”, and Jan explains why he isn’t so certain that the Joe Biden of today is the same reasonable man he interviewed twenty years ago. Jan breaks down the positives and negatives of Donald Trump’s presence in the Presidential race. Jan touches on his interview with Rand Paul and why it never saw the light of day. Finally, Jan has his thoughts about the GOP Debate and picks his favorites in the race thus far. Oh, and Marc has his thoughts on Jan in the Last Roar!

Lions of Liberty!!!

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, host Marc Clair welcomes in entrepreneur, investor and founder of YouPaidFor.It, John Maddox! John describes how a near-death experience led him to realize that if he wanted to see a better world for his children to grow up in that he had to become politically active. John explains how YouPaidFor.It enables people to directly hold their elected officials accountable and to increase awareness of politicians’ actions through crowd sourcing and social media. Marc and John discuss how incumbents are able to hold such an advantage in the political process, and John answers critics who might scoff at his attempts to create actual accountability in government.

In the Last Roar, Marc addresses those who are often cynical about creating change via politics and government – including himself!

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, host Marc Clair is joined by Alex Newman, co-author of “Crimes of the Educators: How Utopians Are Using Government Schools to Destroy America’s Children.” Alex explains how he first became interested in the subject of education, and answers the question, ‘Just what exactly are the “crimes” of the educators?’ Alex describes the “whole word” reading method, and how it has lead to an epidemic of illiteracy and dyslexia in American children. Marc and Alex discuss how the American public school system abuses children through learning processes which actively damage their brains, psychotropic drugs administered at an early age, and just how new regulations through Common Core are furthering this process.

If you have children or plan to have children, you cannot miss this shocking interview. As usual, Marc has his own thoughts in the Last Roar!

In the latest episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, host Marc Clair welcomes in Carlos Morales, former agent for Child Protective Services turned whistleblower and author of “Legally Kidnapped: The Case Against Child Protective Services.” Carlos explains how he first became interested in libertarian ideas prior to his involvement with CPS, and just why he joined the agency despite some of his reservations about state agencies. Carlos describes how CPS agents manipulate both parents and children in order to remove children from their homes and “legally kidnap” them. Marc and Carlos discuss the perverse incentives in place which encourage CPS agents to focus on the sole goal of removing children from their homes as opposed to seeking the truth about the situation. Marc then poses the question to Carlos of “who would protect children from abuse and neglect without Child Protective Services?” As always, Marc has his own thoughts in the last roar!

And now this from Lions of Liberty!!!

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, host Marc Clair is joined by Libertarian National Committee Chair, Nicholas Sarwark! Nicholas describes how he became acquainted with libertarian ideas from a very early age, as he grew up in a very active libertarian political family. He then explains just why he decided to run for Chair of the Libertarian National Committee, and the change he hopes to bring to the party at the national level. Nicholas and Marc discuss the bias in the political system towards the “Big Two” parties, and Nicholas describe the various ways in which he and other motivated individuals are fighting to change that very system. Nicholas makes his pitch on why liberty-minded individuals should support the Libertarian Party, and responds to those who discourage political action among libertarians.

Be sure to stay tuned for Marc’s wrap up rant, as addresses problems with navigating the current, extremely entrenched and biased political system, and why it’s important for those who believe in individual liberty to remain politically active in spite of it.

In today’s show, host Marc Clair is joined by the one and only, Judd Weiss! Judd is known largely for his photography in the liberty movement, but in today’s show we meet the man behind the camera and delve into what makes Judd Weiss tick. Judd describes how his largely nihilistic attitude as a teenager was knocked for a loop with his introduction to Ayn Rand and her work “Anthem.” He then describes how he discovered the work of Nathaniel Branden, how it drastically altered his path in life, and how he eventually became close personal friends with Branden prior to his death in 2014. Marc and Judd discuss Judd’s interview with Jan Helfeld, and just why he was so unfazed by the questioning of the libertarian Socratic interviewer. They touch on the philosophical roots of a belief in individual liberty, and why a search for objective truth in the world is vital to the advancement of liberty. As always, stay tuned after the interview for Marc’s thoughts in the wrap-up rant!

The latest from Lions of Liberty:

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, host Marc Clair welcomes in Lions of Liberty’s own Brian McWilliams for the latest installment of “Rand Pauluses and Minuses,” where they grade the political maneuvers and statements of quasi-libertarian presidential candidate Rand Paul, using the very scientific “Paulus” – “Minus” system. Marc and Brian discuss Rand’s statements surrounding the Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage in the United States and just what Rand views as the solution to the marriage controversy. They then take a look at Rand’s “Fair and Flat Tax” and ponder whether crony corporations will oppose it despite the massive drop in corporate tax liability. They also discuss Rand’s statements regarding Bill and Hillary Clinton overseeing a “new Jim Crow” with their prosecution of the War on Drugs, contrasted with Rand’s direct outreach to the burgeoning marijuana industry.

Austin Petersen on LoL!!!

In today’s show, host Marc Clair welcomes in Austin Petersen to discuss why he enthusiastically touts a minarchist – i.e. “limited government” – philosophy. But first, Austin describes how he came to identify as a libertarian after being raised in a conservative household. Austin then details how he spearheaded the creation Judge Napolitano’s much-hailed “Freedom Watch” on Fox Business, and what he learned from the experience. Marc and Austin then discuss why Austin identifies himself as a minarchist. Austin explains why he rejects the concept of anarchism, and the key problems he sees with anarchist philosophy. Marc and Austin discuss concepts such as consent of the governed, negative vs. positive rights, how a ‘small government’ could be funded, and vigilante justice. After the interview, Marc lays out his positive vision of how individuals in a free society could handle issues of justice while respecting private property rights, and stresses the importance of a reasoned, philosophical approach to the ideas of liberty.

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, we convene another session of our popular feature, “Libertarians in Living Rooms Drinking Liquor!” Host Marc Clair welcomes in fellow liquored-up libertarians Brian McWilliams, John “Odie” Odermatt, and Howie Snowdon. As per usual, the show begins with the gang revealing their drinks of choice.

Brian kicks the conversation off by bringing up the Supreme Court’s recent 5-4 vote that ruled disparate-impact claims can be filed under the fair Housing Act of 1968. This prompts Marc to launch into a rant about the overuse of the word discrimination and the group generally agrees that they have no idea how this law can be enforced on a large scale.

The conversation pivots to the Confederate flag controversy, which naturally leads the gang to debate if Nazi paraphernalia is banned in the United States. The spirited discussion continues with the group chatting about several topics ranging from the government’s recent publicly crushing one ton of poached ivory in Times Square to the circus that is known as the Republican candidates for president.

After a lively debate on Rand Paul’s recent Flat Tax proposal, the group closes out the show talking about….wrestling. This leads the Lions to reminisce about one of the first “big gets” on the podcast, WWE Wrestler and libertarian activist Glenn Jacobs.

Sit back, grab a drink, and hang with the Libertarians in Living Rooms Drinking Liquor!

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, Felony Friday author and all-around swell chap John Odermatt returns to the show for another edition of the Felony Report! John and host Marc Clair take a look at the past month of Felony Friday articles, starting with an attempt to answer the somewhat clickbaity question “Should Big Banks Be Treated the Same as People?” John and Marc look at the a case of a harmless high school prank which has seen two teenage girls face felony charges, which prompts Marc to recount the legal troubles he had following a senior prank in high school. They then discuss John’s recent appearance on Michael Santos’ Earning Freedom podcast, and what people can learn from Michael Santos and the great work he is doing to help those facing the harsh realities of the U.S. criminal justice system. Finally, they wrap things up by looking at the looming deadline for Prop 47 petitions in California, and encourage those affected by it and their loved ones to act immediately to restore any rights lost to felony drug convictions.

In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, host Marc Clair welcomes in Chad Peace of the Independent Voter Project! Chad explains how, after growing up in a political family turned him away from politics, he was inspired by the presidential campaigns of Ron Paul to become a political activist. Chad would go on to be a leading figure in drafting Rand Paul to run for the U.S. Senate, and the rest, as they say, is history. Chad describes his current involvement with the Independent Voter Project and EndPartisanship.org, and how these organizations intend to change the political landscape by ending partisanship, starting with the way debates and elections favor the “Big Two” parties of the Democrats and the Republicans. After Marc disparages California’s new “Top Two” voting system, Chad sets him straight by explaining how the process actually weakens the power of the Democrats and Republicans in that state. Marc and Chad discuss what made Ron Paul so unique during his Presidential runs, and ponder the idea of whether Bernie Sanders will take any of the “Ron Paul vote” away from Rand Paul.

Michael and I discuss the case of Jesse Teplicki, who Michael successfully defended in court after he was arrested for growing marijuana at his home in order to aid him in dealing with his anorexia nervosa. Michael explains the federal government’s hypocrisy on medical cannabis, the hostility faced from judges and prosecutors for defending medical cannabis patients, and why he feels the jury’s decision to acquit Jesse Teplicki is not a case of jury nullification. In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, I am is joined by activist James Babb of We Won’t Fly and the Jury Rights Project! James describes how he first became interested in libertarianism and what led him to become an activist. James and I then discuss the concept of jury nullification, how it has been used in history to effectively overturn bad laws, and just why it’s so important for every citizen to understand and utilize the concept. James discusses the work he is doing with the Jury Rights Project, why they are pamphleting with jury nullification information outside the courthouse where alleged Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht is on trial, and how the court has reacted to it. As you might expect by now, I have some thoughts of my own in the wrap-up rant!
